What Travelers Say

Our driver was waiting at arrivals at 4AM with a name board and cold water. After a 12-hour flight, that attention to detail meant the world to us.

A Family Reunion at 4AM

The Thompson Family🇬🇧
SriLankan UL504
Luxury Van (Toyota HiAce)

When the Thompson family of six planned their first trip to Sri Lanka, the biggest worry was not the 12-hour flight from London Heathrow. It was what would happen when they landed at Bandaranaike International Airport at 4:15 AM with four exhausted children, eight suitcases, and a stroller.

Their driver Nimal had been tracking flight UL504 since it left London. When the SriLankan Airlines A330 touched down 20 minutes late, he was already positioned at the arrivals hall exit with a printed name board reading "Thompson Family - Welcome to Sri Lanka." Inside the Toyota HiAce luxury van, two child seats were pre-installed in Isofix mounts, the air conditioning was running, and six bottles of chilled water were waiting in the door pockets.

The luggage took 45 minutes to arrive, a delay that would have caused panic with a regular taxi. But Nimal waited patiently, helping load all eight bags into the spacious rear compartment. By 5:20 AM, the Thompson family was on the Katunayake Expressway, children already dozing off in their child seats, heading to their Negombo beachfront hotel just 15 minutes away.

Mrs. Thompson later wrote in her review: "Nimal turned what could have been the most stressful part of our holiday into the smoothest. The children were asleep before we left the airport road. This is what professional service looks like." The family went on to book Nimal for three more transfers during their two-week stay, including a day trip to Sigiriya and their return airport transfer.

The Honeymooners' Hill Country Adventure

James & Sophie Anderson🇦🇺
Singapore Airlines SQ468
Premium Sedan (Toyota Axio)

James and Sophie had just gotten married in Melbourne and chose Sri Lanka for their honeymoon. Their plan was ambitious: land in Colombo, drive straight to Kandy, and start exploring the hill country the very next morning. The catch was their flight routing. Coming from Melbourne via Singapore on SQ468, they would land at 2:30 PM, right in the middle of the afternoon heat, facing a three-and-a-half-hour drive into the mountains.

Their driver Kamal met them at the arrivals gate with a cold towel and two king coconuts, a traditional Sri Lankan welcome the couple had not expected. He loaded their luggage into the immaculate Toyota sedan and outlined the route plan: "We will take the A1 highway to Kegalle, and if you are interested, I can stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It is on the way and the elephants bathe in the river at 4 PM."

The stop at Pinnawala was not in the original booking, but Kamal knew from experience that honeymooners love the elephant bathing. He waited in the car park for 90 minutes while James and Sophie watched the elephants. As the sun dropped behind the hills, Kamal drove the remaining stretch through the scenic Kadugannawa Pass, pointing out the famous railway bridge and the mountain panorama that opens up before Kandy.

They arrived at their boutique hotel overlooking Kandy Lake at 7:15 PM, relaxed and already in love with Sri Lanka. "Kamal did not just drive us to Kandy," Sophie wrote. "He gave us our first real experience of Sri Lanka. The Pinnawala stop was the highlight of our entire honeymoon." The couple later booked Kamal for their Ella transfer and a day trip to Sigiriya.

Business Trip Precision

Dr. Klaus Weber🇩🇪
Condor DE2402
Luxury Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Dr. Klaus Weber travels to Colombo four times a year for pharmaceutical industry conferences. Punctuality is not a preference for him, it is a requirement. When his Condor flight DE2402 from Frankfurt was delayed by 25 minutes due to headwinds over the Indian Ocean, he was not worried. He knew from experience that his driver Chaminda would already have the updated arrival time.

Chaminda had been monitoring the Condor flight since departure from Frankfurt, 10 hours earlier. When the Airbus A330 touched down at 6:45 AM instead of the scheduled 6:20 AM, Chaminda was already parked in the short-stay car park, the Mercedes E-Class idling with the air conditioning set to precisely 22 degrees, the way Dr. Weber prefers it. A German-language newspaper was folded on the rear seat.

At the arrivals gate, Chaminda stood in a pressed white shirt with a digital sign reading "Dr. Weber - Recharge Travels." Within four minutes of clearing immigration, Dr. Weber was settled in the leather rear seat, reviewing his conference notes while Chaminda navigated the Colombo Expressway. The 35-kilometer journey to the Hilton Colombo took exactly 42 minutes, arriving at 7:45 AM, 15 minutes before the hotel breakfast service ended.

"I have used limousine services in Frankfurt, Singapore, and New York," Dr. Weber later told our team. "Chaminda and Recharge Travels match or exceed every single one. The flight tracking, the temperature setting, the newspaper, it is not just a transfer, it is an experience I look forward to." Dr. Weber has now completed 14 transfers with us and requests Chaminda by name every time.
